HAGUE APOSTILLE CONVENTION

List of countries accepting an Apostille - Hague Apostille Convention

Foreign governments or agencies often need proof that the signatures of Australian officials on public documents are genuine before they can be accepted.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) will certify that a signature, stamp or seal on an official Australian public document is genuine by reviewing it against a specimen held on file and provide a certificate in the form of an ''Apostille' or 'Authentication'. DFAT is the only body in Australia that is authorised to issue Apostilles and Authentications.

The list of countries below are members of the Hague Apostille Convention meaning each of these countries accept an Apostille. This list is current (last updated August 2024).

For any countries not listed above, an Authentication from DFAT will be required.
